There this great deal on the TRX suspension training Pro Pack 2 on Deal Grocer for the next 11 days or until stocks last (35 items left as of this writing). Well, they're also offering a deal on the TRX Force Kit (44 items left), but I've done a comparison online and they're pretty much the same thing apart from whatever P2 and T2 are, the colors they come in, and that the Force Kit comes with the door anchor (which you will need to buy separately from the Pro Pack 2 if you want to bring this with you when you travel). But the guy on the phone with me from Finix, the company selling both packages on Deal Grocer, recommended getting the Pro Pack 2 so that's what I'm getting, plus it is what I'm used to working out with. (If you buy the door anchor, cost will come out to about the same as the Force Kit.)
When I started out this whole workout experiment at the end of January this year, I started out with kettlebell training on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays, and TRX on Tuesdays and Thursdays. I know I credited the kettlebell training with the immediate results I started to see but, now, I'm wondering if it was the TRX or the combination of both.
TRX stand for Total body Resistance eXercise and was developed by a Navy Seal who wanted to be able to workout with something portable given a limited amount of space. What he came up with is this harness-like contraption which you can suspend yourself from and do all these different exercises on. Since you are suspended, the fact that you need to keep your body stable means that you are constantly engaging your core. And the workouts are fully scalable to anyone's fitness level as you are working out with your body weight and can take it easy or challenge yourself, depending on where you position your feet in relation to the TRX's anchor point.
I tried the TRX out at the home of trainer, Reema Chanco, when she still lived in Makati (she has since moved somewhere in Taguig). I was early for my first session and she was still with a student but Reema threw me in the deep end straight away and had me join his workout. His grunts and screams had me worried but I was able to keep up.
Reema's classes are a bit strange. There are no warm-ups or cool-downs. She herself is all-business. There's no small talk, unless you've known each other for a while, which can be off-putting for some, especially those looking for a bit of encouragement.
Reema just likes to get straight into it. She starts off with the upper body workouts then the legs, and then it's down on the floor for more legs and abs, then you're done. She has a timer and you're supposed to do as many reps as you can within the time allotted for that particular exercise (anywhere from 20 seconds to a minute) before transitioning to the next. What I liked about her workouts was that the transitions were quick. I like to keep my heart rate up and don't like resting too much between sets or workouts. If there is a break, I try to keep moving. I never sit down to rest.
Am excited to work out with the TRX again. It'll be good to use when I'm traveling or when this crazy rainy season leaves me stranded at home.

Reema Chanco also offers Power Plate training. Have never been to her new place but if you need an air-conditioned room to work out in, you might want to inquire about this before you commit to any class. You may contact her at +63-922-897-6204.
